What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts that is based on the premise that good health depends, in part, on a normally functioning nervous system. The spinal cord has 31 pairs of spinal nerves that exit from the spinal column (backbone). The delicate brain and spinal cord tissue are encased in the skull and spinal vertebrae. The spine provides protection, mobility and weight bearing support for our upright position. Spinal nerves exit from the spinal cord. Irritation to these nerves can occur when spinal biomechanics are not functioning properly.
What does Dr. Breunig do?
I use consultation, case history, physical examination and occasionally other testing (x-rays, laboratory analysis) to determine the root of your problem. I am trained in various methods of joint manipulation and mobilization to address pain and abnormal range of motion. Accidents, falls, uneven stress, tension, overexertion and other factors can cause irritation to nerves and joints directly by pressure or indirectly through reflexes.
What areas of the body are treated with Chiropractic?
All areas! The neck, back, hip, knee, ankle, foot, jaw, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand all respond to chiropractic treatment.
How is Dr. Breunig's approach unique?
There are three ways in which my approach is different:
- I spend 25 minutes with you. This is unfortunately rare in many of today's health care visits. Adequate time is essential for understanding the nature of your problem and addressing its cause(s).
- I work on the soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments, connective tissue) as well as the bones and joints. Soft tissue work is essential for permanent healing. The bones and joints do not function well unless the muscles and tendons that attach to them are in balance too!
- I teach self-care: Together we focus on lifestyle changes and restorative exercises targeted to your condition. You feel more in control of your health and understand how to help yourself prevent pain and injury.
Which manipulative techniques does Dr. Breunig use?
I use manual manipulation, craniosacral, Activator, and sacroccipital block technique to address joint dysfunction. Adjusting location is determined by static and motion palpation, pain response, range-of-motion testing, and muscle testing.
